Allansforest Nursery - Advanced Australian Native Trees & Shrubs

Introduction

According to many in the industry, a plants' root system is extremely important to it's overall performance once planted out. Allansforest Nursery is committed to producing plants with root systems which are structurally sound throughout the nursery phase of the plants life. Our efforts to achieve this are part of the reason we choose the containers we use in our production. This page gives an overview of the containers we use for our range of advanced stock, however our total production, which includes cell and tube stock for revegetation, is focussed on root system integrity. This, we believe, is a most important feature of our production which offers outstanding plants to our clients.

Container Grown Stock

  • Many Size Options: Our range includes stock in root ball volumes from the 1.5 litre S1020 Rocket Pot to the 21 litre K3033.
These sizes are available:1.5 litre S1020 Rocket Pot; 3 litre 150mm Root Trainer (Citrus Pot); 8 litre K2025 Rocket Pot
18 litre K3025 Rocket Pot; 50 litre K4040 Rocket Pot (available soon); 113 litre K6040 Rocket Pot (available soon).
  • Air Root Pruning: Advanced stock of Australian Native Plants at Allansforest Nursery are produced in containers which promote air root pruning occur during the development of the root system. This encourages initiation of of more lateral roots and a greater cacpcity to quickly establish once planted. There is less need to manually untangle and prune the root-ball prior to planting significantly reducing "transplant shock" allowing early, rapid establishment of the plantscape.
  • Fully Hardened to Extreme Conditions: We are proud of the way our stock performs after leaving the nursery. Many repeat clients report strong growth in difficult conditions when compared to stock from other sources. We believe that plants should be grown to survive in REAL field conditions, not just for a lush appearance on a nursery shelf. Our stock is produced outdoors, under conditions which promote hardiness coastal conditions, hard water and drought stresses. We may not produce the most aesthetically pleasing stock from a marketing perspective however, we have confidence in stock for projects which require plants that perform from the initial planting and continue to thrive and develop into a pleasing result which can be enjoyed and admired for many years.

  • Air Root Pruning: Ribs on the internal surface of the pot which direct roots down towards a row of holes at half the depth of the pot, and the open mesh base to promote a well branched root system with less spiralling than conventional pots. Containers are supported by plastic bases on raised benches to stop root migration occuring at the base of the container.

  • Advanced Xanthorrhoea in 300mm Tubs

  • Seed Grown:Our plants are grown from seed.
  • Flowering Age: Plants in our 300mm tubs are 7 years or older and are at a stage where flowering begins to occur. Occasionally this occurs in the nursery, however these plants will flower soon after planting. This is usually a response to being removed from the constraints of the container.
  • Sustainable Supply: Seed grown stocks of Xanthorrhoaea are not commonly available. Most Xanthorrhoaea are harvested under permit and require considerable time and effort to harvest. The harvest process puts great strees on the root system of these plants which takes much time from which to recover.
  • Establishment Advise: We can help with achieving the best establishment outcomes with advise on the best planting strategies.
